Great book gifts

December 04, 2008

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
A classic in every way - and if you are lucky enough to see and hear the Scholastic version - you'll be stocking up on these. The catchy tune will have you singing about a coconut tree being invaded by letters. This is THE book to start every alphabet beginner!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt
I can't help but read this book to my tots with a little melody in my voice as I turn the page. The excitement of chasing a bear - only to be chased back, reminds us so much of what we "pretend" to do at home to. It's a sweet book with lots of words to sound out and illustrate for our children's imagination.

Counting Kisses
Karen Katz is one of our favorite illustrators. Her books seem to resonate with the little ones [and parents too!]. The act of kissing, and all the ways we do with our children is beautifully captured from 1 to 10 in this book. It's a fine gift for any new Mom.

Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me
The moving artwork and words make this Eric Carle a collectible. If you're like me, and have kids who point to the moon everynight - and ask about the moon's whereabouts every "day" - then you'll need this book. It's a sweet tale of what any parent would do for their including the moon. Many nights, we stretch our arms and try to reach for it together.

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish
I still don't get it. But I'll read it - over and over again. It's silly and obscure and everything and anything. One thing it is for sure, a great counting book for your curious new learner.
