Find out more about:

reflections

January 13, 2009

It started in infancy. And the growing desire to stare at their reflection continues to follow them with each passing month.

There's something darling about a child whose so curious. Especially about themselves. Who is this face? Why does she smile so wide? What ever thoughts dance in their heads - they are entranced by what they see. They are taken away by their imaginations and the fictional character they portray. They are delicious to watch.

Here is a list of some of the best places and ways a young child can enjoy their moment of reflection - whether with mom or alone.

1. The bathroom. Waking up and brushing their teeth, they see themselves and greet their faces each day and express their thoughts still lingering from dreams. If you do your morning routines together - then you already know how these conversations while staring in the mirror - are memorable.

2. Stand-up mirror or wall mirror in the dress-up corner. What ever the size, you must have one near the dress-up corner or bin. As they try on different hats or coats, they want to see the transformation come together. We went to a dress-up birthday party, and my daughter had such a fun time by herself in the mirror, admiring her new dress - and acting like a "princess."

3. The fitting room. I sometimes dread going in with my children - but it's inevitable. They are in awe the instant they see 3 of themselves. And they take turns making funny faces. They have fun - and I relax in between stores...

4. Window shop. We all do it. But watch them lean close. Press their noses. And then step back. A figure like theirs appears, mocking their every move. The fascination of watching their reflection on "glass" amazes them delicately.

5. Magic hand-held mirrors - they some how magically make you say, "Mirror, mirror in my hand...whose the fairest in the land?"
